RE: 26 day Detox: Day 19 - Who ordered the side of insulin?

in #funny6 years ago

Thank you for this inspiring post!

I am thinking abou taking the deep dive and detoxing from sugar. I know how bad it is for me. I have tried before and usually last about a week and then succumb to temptation. Any tips to help with this?

Im thinking about blogging about it because they say making yourself accountable helps

Sort:

I think this is a FANTASTIC idea! Blogging about it WILL help you feel more accountable! Just knowing that there are people that are watching hehehe - it really does give you an extra boost of determination :)

So my tips.... I would say the #1 most underrated GIFT while you are detoxing from anything is.....

ready for it????? hahaha

WATER.

Water will help you with so many of your detox symptoms. I can tell you this - when you try to go off sugar -be prepared for a battle! It's already been proven to be MORE addicting that cocaine is. You'll get many withdrawal symptoms, but if you start treating your body kindly BEFORE you even attempt to quit sugar - it will be easier!

They recommend drinking half of your body weight (in ounces) in water every day - maybe for week. Just to make sure you're really hydrated. So if you're 200 pounds - you'd be shooting for around 100 ounces of water a day. Space it out evenly too. Don't just chug 50 ounces at once hahahaha

and then start to eat more good choices of food. Stay away from processed junk, eat whole foods that are as close to their natural state as possible! Lots of veggies! You don't have to eat small amounts. Load up your plate with veggies! :)

Then after a week - try to cut sugar. I would even be ok with natural sugars in the beginning, as long as they came in berries and fruits (organic really is best for berries. Their skin is so thin that they soak up so much of the poisons that they use to treat non-organic berries!). For the beginning just try to focus on cutting out processed refined sugars.

of course - this is all my OPINION. I'm not a doctor and you should always listen to your body and make sure that you have no pre-existing conditions that would make any of this dangerous for you! :) so please always be careful, and take my advice with a grain of salt!

but i'd really be interested in following your journey if you do start this.... please comment on any of my posts to let me know that you started!!! :)

Thanks! Yeah I imagine water is really helpful. I think I will track my calories through Myfitnesspal and share them with my blogs as I go aswell - so people can see my progress and see how hard it is to cut out sugar! I think the first week is just cutting back the added sugar as you mentioned and then working on cutting everything else afterwards.

I have already started the process of eating up whats left in my house. I think I will write a blog in the next couple of days about why I am doing this and what I hope to achieve etc.

The most important thing in converting to a low carb diet, is making sure you keep your electrolytes in balance or you will end up with a headache.

Cutting out sugar isnt that difficult if you have the will power and track everything you eat!! Trust rust me i did it and had a very sweet tooth.

Make sure you eat plenty protein and that will keep you fuller longer. MFP is a great way to track your macros and weight loss and measurements.

Thanks yea I often get headaches in the past when I tried this.Good piece of advice.

I think will power is the hardest thing because sometimes Igo to the supermarket and its hard to avoid the sugar its everywhere.

We eat lots of meat so we are good for protein!

@robmenzies is a doctor :)

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on tv.

hehehehe but in all seriousness - his guidance will probably help you so much! I'll just bring the giggles :)

Yes headaches are very common in the beginning as the “flu” in keto circles. Just make sure tour taking adequate salt. And typically that would be a 4:1 ratio of potassium to sodium chloride.

I now tend to use stevia in everything as my sweetner, and the after taste that some people complain about i don’t really notice.

The beat thing MFP came out with was the barcode scanner makes life so much easier when trying to make the right choices in the supermarket.

Yeah there is no real excuses to not track food now its so easy. I have the ideas in my head to do myintro post about this but putting it off lol! watch this space!

Im also abit worried about getting enough calories in (I go to the gym and do weights) im guessing I will get the calories through healthy fats??

Tbh it depends on how much fat you want to lose (if any 10-15% body fat will have you ripped) as to how much fat you should consume. But you are correct healthy Fats are the leverage between weight gain, loss and maintenance. If your going to the gym then protein will be a must. Typically your macros are set by your height, or by your lean body mass if you know that accurately through DEXA scan not by standing on scales or glavanic resistance.

Im a small guy 74kgs (around 160lbs).. last time i had my body fat % tested t was 8%!! Iv always been a hard gainer

We eat lots of good healthu protein (lean meat, fish, eggs etc) so no problem there. Do you have any suggestion for books or youtube pages to watch?

That's awesome!!!!! tracking through a program will be cool to be able to add charts to your posts :)

You sound really motivated... let's see if we can cheer you on to push past your 7 day limit hehehee i think you will this time! :)

Yeah that was the plan..Im going through my kitchen at the moment and there is sugar everywhere! I will just be eating vegetables and meat...

i think you're gonna do it - i feeeeeeeeeeeeeel it :)

i'm super excited to follow your success story! cuz i feel a part of it now :)

Thanks the more people folloing me the more accountable I will feel :)

That's very true! You'll have a whole group watching and supporting you.

And if you try to run away... We will just catch you!!!! Hehehehe
