Finnish alcohol politics and a 1000 pack of beer.

in #funny7 years ago

Finland is trying to reduce alcohol risks by controlling the availability and price of alcohol. Time when alcohol can be sold is very strict (9am to 9pm in shops, restaurants have their own schedule they have to follow), places where alcohol can be sold is very strict (4,7% alcohol in regular shops, stronger alcohols in alcohol shops "Alko") and this should reduce consumption of alcohol.

  • If you are in a bar, you can buy only one shot per time. If you want more, you need to have friends with you.
  • In the bar you're not allowed the drink to toilets.
  • If restaurant is bringing in their own wine, you can't buy a bottle from then and take it home with you.
  • You can't take any drinks outside the bar, except on to terrace.
  • You can't have alcohol ads pretty much anywhere
  • The government is thinking about raising regular shop alcohol limit to 5,5%, but it seems it's not happening
  • Finnish alcohol webshop (from government owned Alko) is a system, in which you can order alcohol in advance and go pick it up from an Alko store. They will not deliver it to you anywhere.
  • You are still allowed to buy a 1000-pack of beer. Which is completely fine.

Now I know why polish people so seldom travel to Finland :P

True, but the polish people I've met in Finland got so depressed in Finland, they drank more than they typically do :)
