Bullseye fungisteemCreated with Sketch.

I built a throwing knife / archery target years back. A co-worker at the time had a massive pine fall on his fence, and was chopping up the tree. He mentioned this at work, and I told him Id love a chunk. A week later he brought a soaked 100+ pound stump and we loaded it in my truck and took it back home.

I painted a dot in the center for our bulls eye, and it seems that may have triggered a fruiting. Or maybe all those arrows and knive blades hitting it.

Mushrooms tend to fruit when they sense a change in their environment, or feel threatened. So I think by painting the center the chemicals freaked out the mushroom and it started it reproductive process thinking it was going to die.

You can see this log is a culture for many kinds of mycelium, the white all over the wet log is fungal growth.

Probably all wood loving mushrooms, and some kind of scale mushroom on the sides growing on its bark.

It appears to be different than the bulls eye fungi growing at the center of the log.

I guess it does not like the pressure treated backboard as it stopped there.

Sure is, I really like how many mushrooms I can find in Georgia. Thank you and glad you liked my post.

That must have been some impressive tree!

They popped and shout: "no no please stop throwing knifes at us!" :D

@ewkaw

Yeah must have been 100' tall with the width of the trunk I got.

Haha, yeah maybe. Ill stop throwing at it for a little while, getting real cold outside. Hmm maybe that triggered it, the cold weather.

There's a fungus among us!

Sure is, always under foot.

Amazing how life finds a way to carry on.

@manorvillemike

Unique and rare mushrooms with funny shapes @solominer
