Fungi Friday: what is this thing?

This monster grew in the yard of a home I was renting in Folsom, California. It was about five inches tall. I have never seen anything like it.

    I think its a baked potato! alien baked potato, to be precise. very intresting how it could taste. I will not try myself, tho -- i am not an alien...
