Create an impactful social media post

We often mention social media as the main road to your success. The numbers speak for themselves. People are on social media, a lot of them. What you want is for that lot to hear about you and your project. Social media has become the best place for advertisement and marketing campaigns so today we will talk about creating an impactful social media post and help you get the attention you deserve.

To get the most of this topic, we suggest you read our previous post about social media that can be found on our steemit feed, discord channel or the Fundition platform. Social media is a big topic with a lot of material that needs to be covered so we hope that you will benefit from all our posts on that subject.

Before starting with anything, you first need to decide what impact do you want to make. What is it that you want to achieve? If you want people to hear about your project then you will create an informative post. If you want them to visit your webpage, you need to use call-to-action words that correspond with that and if you want them to donate, there are different words you need to use.

Choose the right platform

There are different social media platforms and while you can use all of them, there is no point in using them in the same way since they are not the same. If you have amazing photos, use Instagram and if you want to create an event or a way for people to respond to you, use Facebook instead. Have in mind that the demographics of the users is not the same everywhere. There are many groups and pages that have a theme and if your project is in that theme, advertise there. You will already be in a place where the people you are interested in are. This, of course, means that you need to know what groups of people are you targeting. Sure, there may be techno enthusiastic people in the natural healing group but you will probably be better off advertising your next technological breakthrough where people who are focused on technology spend their free time.

Understanding which post type gives you the best result on each network is critical for your success because each social network handles post types differently. For example, plain text on Facebook will get you more reach than a photo but it will be the opposite for Instagram. Google+ not only gets you more for photos but also uses links for search engine optimization purposes and your post is indexed at search results.

Just as you need to know your social platform, you also need to know your audience so do some research. Every project is unique and while you aim to get attention from everyone (good luck with that) the chances are that certain people will be more interested than others. This is completely normal so do not fight it. Use it to your advantage. If you have a project that helps dogs in shelters, you will get the best results with vegans, vegetarians, nature lovers, pet lovers etc. Are you a filmmaker? Actor? Find people who are interested in art or are artistic by nature and appreciate various ways of expression.

Do not let them look for you,
be there where ever they look.

Another important thing to have in mind is wake hours of different countries. Take a close look at those time zones and if you want to reach Europeans, Americans or Asians, choose carefully when your post will get published. Try to grab the attention of the influencing people first. Reach out to them directly if you need to because their words mean more than yours and get heard by more people. You can always arrange a certain discount or a favor back if a person agrees to be your promoter.

To summarize, to have an impactful social media post you need to do the following:

  • choose the right social media
  • adapt your post to specific social media
  • know your audience and what time they are at their computers
  • construct the post so it has the right call-to-action words
  • advertise in the right groups

The number of likes you get is not the measure of success. The number of shares is not either. Those are post-responses and while they are important and nice to see, you are aiming for project-responses. You want people to give you more than just a thumbs up, you want them to donate to your project so never forget to use the right call-to-action words. Your posts should reach out to people and call them to visit your webpage, look at your results, donate to your project, read some media coverage about you, subscribe to your mailing list, check out your latest photos of the project etc. Try to have something that you wish your readers to do after they read your social media post. GOOD LUCK!
