PROJECT LAB: Setting Up a Science Laboratory for Our School (UPDATE #3)

Project LAB aims to raise enough funds to set up Science Laboratory in San Miguel Central School, San Miguel, Leyte, Philippines. It has a goal of providing the class with the necessary equipment to achieve better learning among the pupils. Laboratory activities are necessary to provide hands-on experiences with the learners, thus making their learning much more fun and meaningful.

In early grades, students should be exposed to Science as a "HANDS ON, MINDS ON" process and encouraged them to explore about the world around them. Students should be able to develop abilities to systematically collect and organize data and communicate investigation, culminating in abilities to formulate explanations or models based on results of investigation. This will only be made possible if we would give the chance to the children to learn by having hands-on activities such as experimentation.

As you can see in the pictures above, pupils are really eager to perform the activities given to them. For teachers, just looking at the excitement and joy of our learners make us happy because we know they are eager to learn. However, if you can also notice, we do not have the necessary materials needed in conducting experiments. So, teachers are given the task to find ways on how we will be able to impart the knowledge to the pupils looking for alternative materials just to go on with our lessons. This is now the problem of the teachers. Sometimes, we are really having a hard time on looking for alternative materials since we are not provided with the equipment needed in our Science lessons. So, the tendency is, learning of the pupils will sometimes become limited because we sometimes would just go on with our lessons through demonstrations and video presentations. However, there are some learners who cannot really instill the concepts taught to them just by looking and listening. We all know that we have different kinds of learners. Some only learn through experience by hands-on activities. These are some of the reasons why I keep on knocking on the generous hearts of all people here in the steemit world to please help us in setting up a Science Laboratory for our school with complete equipment which will benefit the pupils of San Miguel Central School from Grades 3-6.

Even teachers are very eager to learn and do hands-on activities.

As I have said in my previous posts, I am currently attending a training in Science. In our activities, we are actually simulating what really happens in our Science class. We act as Grade 4 pupils while our speaker will be our teacher.

It is evident on the faces of these Grade Four Teachers including me that we are really having fun at the same time we are learning. How much more if these hands-on activities will be given to our own pupils in our respective classes?

So basically, Science teaching requires experimentation. But how can this be made possible without the necessary equipment?

This is the main reason why I have proposed a PROJECT LAB to @fundition which was approved and currently on the run. I am hoping this project would be realized soon.

For those who are asking when am I going to start purchasing the equipment, please bear with me for now as my training will end by July 4. It is keeping me from working on with my project. It usually starts from 8am and ends by 5pm. I still have to travel back and forth to the city which is about 45-km away from our home for more than an hour. And last trip going home is 6pm so after the session, I will already look for a jeepney to ride on. So basically for the whole duration of my training, I cannot purchase the equipment even just one at a time. I hope everyone will understand my situation.

But just after my training, I will start purchasing the equipment so as to apply my learning during the training to the pupils. And I also guarantee everyone that the using of funds for this project will be transparent to everyone so as to avoid issues especially that I am an educator.
