@bettervision touching lives on Christmas (TLC) #Yawhenemekrom

Selfishness makes Christmas a burden, love and gifts makes it a delight

The second town that was visited is called Yawhenemekrom, a town similar to that of Dansekrom but a little more developed in terms of facilities and amenities. A portion of the population was also farmers and their reception was also very warm and welcoming.

The teams were segregated into their various functions, the medical team comprising of the general health medical team, the ocular health medical team and the psychological health team. Patients were group into geriatrics and pediatrics to facilitate the whole process and make things more simple since children hardly have any serious complains or health conditions unless it is quite severe.

There was the education session too which was mostly focused on the kids about general hygiene and what Christmas is all about which was followed suit by the distribution of gifts. No extreme health cases were recorded and as usual individuals who need special care where segregated from the crowd to ensure they get the best of services rendered.

What is @bettervision about?

@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.

To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.

To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks

To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.

To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.
