Preparing for An Outreach to Kumasi Anglican Senior High School
Hello Everyone, Let me introduce you to the some of the brains behind @better vision project for deprived communities, from the right is Aihoon Fiifi Samuel, Abubakr Siddique, Jabez, Esther Asante and @nattybongo. Preparing for an outreach requires more than just ophthalmic instruments, it requires careful planning, drafting of letters to the appropriate authorities and provision of some refreshment to all people whose service and expertise may be required, hence the meeting.
For our next outreach we are planning on visiting a Senior High School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana, West Africa. The name of the school is Kumasi Anglican Senior High School otherwise known as Super KASS, why the super I cannot really tell, but it is a co-ed boarding school with lots of beautiful brains that may impact the very future of the Nation. We decided to visit a high school because our vision is very essential in the studies process and major percentage of refractive errors are found with the youth or high school students. Student who suffer from refractive errors in school who may not know it would either need to sit very near or far from the board and may have more difficulties if he or she comes across a strict teacher who may decide that where he places the student is the best for him irrespective of complains that may be raised, hence the need for education too, mind you not many understand the in depth physiology of vision. Also not been comfortable with vision whiles studying has lots of detrimental effects.
Again in the estimate by World Sight of nearly 1 Billion people in the world suffering from refractive errors, 55% of these are women, that is, the girl child is also going to be a focus on this outreach. Since we do not have instruments of our own we will be hiring the Trial case set, Ophthalmoscopes and Retinoscopes for the outreach, we are still looking at the best avenues to secure some and at the lowest rates, Stay tuned for updates on how the outreach will go.
