Sometimes, even the best parents get into a rut and need some new ideas for fun things to do with kids. Let’s face it—kids like variety! While there is probably always somewhere you can go that will cost money, like an amusement park or indoor play area, most families can’t afford to pay those prices every time they want to have a little fun together. Fortunately, that doesn’t have to mean that you and your loved ones have to sit at home, watching TV, or playing video games. There are tons of fun things to do with kids, many of which don’t cost a dime!

Do Some Research

You’d be surprised what your city may already offer! In fact, many adults don’t have a clue just how much their family can do around their hometown. Children’s museums (some operate without charging admission), large playgrounds, and children’s gardens are popular attractions in cities. Don’t forget to research your public libraries. Often, they have programs that go far beyond simple storytimes! Another activity sometimes held by towns and cities is outdoor movie screenings. Usually, these occur during spring, fall, and summer. Finally, check out educational facilities. Often, planetariums and other educational learning centers will offer a free evening or weekend for families to enjoy their services.

Create Your Own Fun

Naturally, you don’t have to limit your family to activities sponsored by others. With a little creativity and ingenuity, you can create your own fun! For instance, young children who are still old enough to talk and walk, particularly enjoy airplanes. If you’ve got an airport in your vicinity, find a place to park with a view, and watch those planes take off and land. Your kids might have some funny guesses on where all those airplanes are headed off to! Another fun idea is to head outside with some sidewalk chalk. Kids and adults can play hopscotch, trace each others’ bodies, and draw pictures of anything you can think of. It’s a great option for when it’s just too nice to stay indoors.

Stay At Home

Let’s face it. Rainy days at home with restless youngsters can be a recipe for disaster! Don’t let yourself get flustered and frustrated—make the most out a day indoors. You can get recipes online for homemade versions of watercolors, bubbles, and even puffy paint! Even if a child often paints with watercolors, the novelty of making his or her own paint is truly exciting! Indoor picnics are also big hits. If you’re up for it and it is warm enough, why not play outside in the rain (unless of course, it’s lightning)? Children find the prospect of being allowed to get wet and dirty tantalizing because usually they’re not allowed because we have somewhere to be.

Quality Time

Just remember, the point of these activities is to have fun together as a family. When your precious little ones grow up, they won’t be as concerned about whether they were always doing expensive or inexpensive things. They will remember and cherish, however, the fun you had together! That’s all there is to it if you looking for fun things to do with kids.
