Yes commenting meaningful comments can be profitable on Steemit. The only problem that new people would find is, that commenting meaningful comments takes time as well. You have to read the content to respond with a quality comment. And spamming the same comment on hundreds of posts will only get you blacklisted.

I appreciate the comment @poss and am happy to see you continuing to produce some awesome content on Steemit. You are a great example of how steady commitment and original content can pay off long term.
