Started a Fudo-Myo backpiece today, Japanese tattooing holds so much meaning

So I started on this back piece today, one session and we got all the lining down, props to my customer, hard as nails.

The Fudo-Myo is seen as a protective diety in Japan, China and some traditions in Tibet. He's said to be a protective diety, the flames around him burning away all impurities.

In this case it had a lot of significance as the client had recently overcome cancer, I've known him for ages and tattooed his sleeves and a leg piece on him, so we've spent some time together.

Seeing him come out of this ordeal stronger than before is really uplifting, it makes the tattoo all the more special. I really enjoy Japanese tattooing, it feels that almost all of the elements have meaning to them and it's such a strong style that wears really well in the skin. Looking forward to more progress on this.
