Homemade Pumpkin Puree // Memanggang Labu Kuning

G'day Friends!


I still have pumpkins leftover from Halloween, and I already gave a couple to a friend! Every year I said let's not buy a lot of pumpkins for Halloween because then the freezer would be flooded with pumpkins and no space for nothing else haha But we would still end up getting a lot, because they are just awesome for porch decorations, you know.

So I spent my morning, seeding, cutting, and roasting pumpkin. Which of course, they will fill up the freezer and we will eat a lot of pumpkin buns, pie, chili, soup, cookies, cheezecake, whatever pumpkin, until 2019 lol

One large pumpkin today made 7 trays of roasted pumpkin, crazy. Seriously a lot of roasting and pureeing lol

Sepanjang pagi hingga detik ini, aku sibuk memanggang labu kuning.

Kemarin pas Halloween tuh, kami beli 8 buah. Aku sudah selalu mengingatkan suami tercinta untuk tidak beli banyak-banyak, karena tiap tahun tuh, kulkas dan lemari es penuuuuhhhh dengan labu kuning, setiap habis Halloween hahahah

Tapiiii namanya juga suami, dia tau aku senang banget menghias depan rumah dengan labu-labu besar setiap musim Gugurnya, yah masuk telinga kiri, keluar telinga kanan deh. Selalu beli buanyak, ya amplop.

Tadi aja, 1 buah labu kuning setelah di potong-potong, menjadi 7 loyang kue, kebayang ga sih 7 kali manggang labu, 7 jam euy, karena ovenku tak besar wkwkwkw

As today is #fruitsandveggiesmonday, a gathering for fruits and veggies lovers by @lenasveganliving, I am sending this blog of how I made pumpkin puree to the gathering :)

Have you ever participated? You can post anything related to fruits and veggies, from garden, from market, etc, even recipes, to the gathering, as long as they are vegan/plant-based, BUT you definitely don't have to be a vegan to participate! Come check the tag if you are interested :)

For today's pumpkin puree, I did not use water as I know I won't be using the puree right away but freezing them. When you thaw the puree, they usually produce liquid, so adding water while pureeing would just mean adjusting recipes and I do not like to complicate my brain :P

Hari ini kan harinya #fruitsandveggiesmonday, yang diolah oleh @lenasveganliving, jadi aku mau mengikutsertakan caraku ini ke tagar dia deh. Apa teman sudah pernah ikutan?

Yuk gunakan tagar #fruitsandveggiesmonday setiap Seninnya. Teman bisa unggah apapun yang berkaitan dengan sayuran serta buah-buahan, baik dari hasil kebun, baik tentang perkebunan, tentang pasar, dll, bahkan juga bisa mengirimkan masakan teman asal menggunakan sayur-mayur ataupun cemilan buah-buahan.

Labu kuning hari ini tuh setelah kupanggang, kulumatkan hingga menjadi seperti bubur, namun tanpa diberi air, karena kalau sehabis dibekukan, setelah dikeluarkan dari lemari es, dia akan mengeluarkan cairan, dan aku kurang suka teksturnya yang super lembek, jadi kuakalin dengan tidak menggunakan air saat melumatkannya.

To make puree that won't be too liquidy once thawed, all you need to do is seeded the pumpkin, clean the middle from the fibres, and roast them at preheated 425 F for an H on convection oven, and/or until tender when poked with a fork.

Take out tray from the oven, let stand until cool enough to handle, peel the skin (it will be so easy to peel), and mash pumpkin with either fork or masher -you can obviously use food processor and add a teeny tiny water to help produce smooth puree as store bought canned puree, if you like and/or if you are using it straight away rather than freezing the puree.

Pack the puree in container or ziplock bag, weigh it, and write some info on the bag (such as the weight, the date of making), freeze and that's about it :D

Use the puree for baked goods or cooking :D

Kalau teman mau buat juga nih, tinggal dibersihkan labunya dari biji serta serat-serta, panggang pada oven yang sudah dipanaskan terlebih dahulu 425 F selama 1 jam - tusuk labu dengan garpu untuk melihat apakah sudah lunak atau belum.

Keluarkan dari oven, dinginkan sebentar, lalu tinggal dikupas kulitnya - cukup mudaaaah banget. Kalau dipanggang tuh, kulitnya tinggal ditarik doang.

Baru deh dilumatkan, bisa dengan garpu atau alat pelunak, juga bisa dengan blender. Untuk memudahkan di blender, bisa diberi air sedikiiiit banget (terutama kalau mau segera dipakai, namun kalau mau dibekukan setelah diblender, sebaiknya tidak diberi air, karena itu dia, kalau dikeluarkan dari lemari es, bakalan mengeluarkan air juga, jadi ntar kudu menyesuaikan resep, ribet kan? wkwkwkw)

Tinggal di bungkus, timbang, dan taruh tanggal serta info beratnya, masukkin lemari es deh.

yeah, the idea in the beginning was to only post recipes but then i expanded my wings lol

Can I order couple of bags? LOL! I did it last year, but my pumpkin was small, so it wasn't that much. Also, I have only small freezer. Great job my Dear, that was lots of work 🍒 🍌🍑🌿🍍🍓🍇

Ha! Thank you for this. I used butternut squash the other weekend and roasted it to make puree. Am making pumpkin pie this weekend as a Thanksgiving element to my internationally themed Sunday Supper this weekend. Thanks to your advice, I roasted it and then pureed it. :D
