FRUITS AND VEGGIES MONDAY | Morning Glory is the all round CHAMPION !

I was browsing through my photos from months ago and ....
Yeah, sometimes we need to do some spring cleaning on all those photos.

It suddenly hit me that I have so many photos on the vegetable morning glory.
This is indeed a very common vegetable in the South East Asian countries.
At first I thought it was just back home in Malaysia, but then I realised that it's also common here in Vietnam and also in Cambodia.

On the top left is my version of Malaysian Cantonese cooking style while on the top right is a Cambodian Khmer cooking style. See how similar both dishes are and yet so different in some ways too.

For Malaysian Cantonese cooking, it's slightly more oily and salty while Cambodian Khmer cooking, it's on the sweeter side.

How would you cook morning glory or I call it best as water spinach. Come to think of it, I just brought some from the local wet market over the weekend. Best to cook it tonight before it dries up.

I'll definitely share more in my next post. Hope you enjoy my photo taken from my Huawei

Thanks so much..
Am glad that this post and vegetable inspired many :)

Love it. It's like an exotic spinach.

I don't know if it's exotic but most economical vegetable that's for sure.

Thanks so much for the rally upvote support :)

I would love to hear more, do you stirfry the greens? Is the Morning Glory plant the vine with flowers? I'm not familiar with this veggie :)

Stirfry is one way of cooking it though I tend to just blanch it with hot water.
Easy, no oil and healthier too.
Though I've never seen it's flowers.. not sure if there is any flowers.
When I visit the nursery, it's always using seeds to grow it

Such a wonderful post... but I am thinking; I love Morning Glory flowers... is this the same thing my friend? I know there are many natural ingredients that we would never think about cooking, but certainly better than GMO yucky stuff yes? Also... Congratulations on being chosen for the @phc #rallyupvote!

Thanks so much @wesphilbin
I've never heard about morning glory flowers though.. Don't even know if there are flowers for this plant.
Then again, in this country so many vegetable and fruit flowers can be eaten.
It's either eaten raw as a salad or cooked.

Morning Glories are some of our favorite flowers that we have here in Missouri...

@wesphilbin - Effects of Morning Glory? LSD like experience that lasts about 6 hours, but with less hallucinogenic effects. Nausea is common even with untreated seeds. Less anxiety, less intensity than LSD in normal doses.

Not so edible :) Well, it is, but, just say no!

Hello my friend! I'm afraid I must have missed a reference about asking for effects of eating these flowers? I did know about Angel Trumpets being used to make tea... but those who did, died without being able to react... people aye?

Regardless... good to see you!! I hope you had an AWESOME time on your trip? Much love to you my friend!!

Well, actually, you asked about cooking them above? So, I just wanted you to say no. :)

facepalm

That's what I get for doing too much all the time. I'm sorry my friend... and oh yes... I'd not risk eating them myself...

This is very interesting. I've only heard of the morning glory flower. Is this by any chance part of that flower? The morning glory flower supposedly will make a person who consumes it, to have a trip like someone on LSD.

Obviously, if it is the same plant, you are consuming a part that isn't psychedelic.

Wow !! This is definitely news to me.

The morning glory flower supposedly will make a person who consumes it, to have a trip like someone on LSD.

I've really got to be careful then; not to ingest any flower that I'm not familiar with.
In this country, many flowers can be eaten.
It's very common among the locals.

I was mistaken; it's not the plant that has the psychedelic qualities, it's the seeds. The seeds are controlled most everywhere in the world. It may be a specific morning glory strain also, I'm not sure. But I read that the seeds are considered a schedule 3 substance by the FDA in the U.S.

They have it in Thailand too where I found it added to my meals sometimes; I found it enjoyable to eat..

Ah.. Yes, I've heard Thais eat it too but I'm not sure what the locals call it.
However, it is, it must taste good too.
Wonder if they use tom yam paste for flavour.
