The former summer residence of the Habsburgs scores with imperial state rooms and a magnificent garden. Once upon a time Maria Theresia, Emperor Franz Joseph, Empress Elisabeth and Co. stayed here.
Schönbrunn Palace is one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe. Owned by the Habsburgs in 1569, the wife of Emperor Ferdinand II, Eleanor of Gonzaga, had a pleasure palace built on the site in 1642 and named the estate "Schönbrunn" for the first time. The castle and gardens built after the Turkish siege in 1696 were completely rebuilt under Maria Theresia after 1743. Today, the castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical significance, unique location and magnificent facilities.

1,441 rooms for Emperor Franz Joseph and "Sisi"

In 1830, Emperor Franz Joseph was born in Schönbrunn Palace. His last years were spent here by the monarch. Schönbrunn Palace has a total of 1,441 rooms; 45 of them can be visited. The interior is in rococo style. Mozart performed as a six-year prodigy in the Hall of Mirrors at Schönbrunn Palace. In the Chinese Cabinet, Maria Theresa held her secret conferences with Chancellor Kaunitz. In the Vieux Lacque room Napoleon conferred. And in the Blue Chinese Salon in 1918 Emperor Charles I signed his resignation to the government (end of the monarchy). The million-room paneled in rosewood and decorated with valuable miniatures from India and Persia is one of the most beautiful rococo rooms ever. The Vienna Congress met in 1814/15 in the Great Gallery.
