Dear Dead Bones

There were times she thought she could walk, and tried her hardest but nothing worked,
at least not since the accident.

Being confined to a wheelchair was the last thing she ever thought would be her life journey.

People whispered that he had done it to her on purpose, but
how could that be when he was in the car too.

She loved him and she thought he loved her too, lately
there doubts about that ...
like the other night when he wanted to give
her sleeping pills.

Even though he was American and she was Cuban,
what would that have to do with anything? Every
year they celebrated with the Orisha ...
he seemed to enjoy the sacrificial ceremony and blessing.

Actually, he seemed to like it a little too much.

She thought she had caught a glimpse of him licking his lips,
when the High Priestess took off her clothes and gyrated to the
drums.

He would kiss her on the forehead at night and whisper, my dear dead bones ...
her heart would pound in her ears and a tingling of fright would crawl down her spine.

That was when a plan of escape started to form in her mind.

This is where my five minute timer went off ...
