Fresh5 writing contest - The Promise of Eternity

Sonia pressed her tear stained cheeks deep into Marco's chest. She cried soundlessly, tears making his shirt damp and his heart heavy.
" My love, it's an eternity ahead, that you have with me. Why does it sadden you so" Marco coaxed gently
"I'm not sad Marco, I'm so happy I can't stop crying" Sonia said looking up at her lover with a smile. " We have no home and now have to live amongst the humans, I simply can't bear those furry beings" Sonia sniffed into her sleeve
Marco laughed, his guffaws resounding in the emptiness of their deserted castle, " Furry, huh? That's about right! Don't know sometimes if they are monkey or man" Marco wiped his eyes and looked down at Sonia
" We are Elves and will remain beautiful forever! You my love will rule over these creatures and they will worship us" Marco said
" Are you sure they will bow down to us Marco? It seems they can be quite dim-witted and may not follow our orders!" Sonia said. She didn't want to leave their magical land and mingle with the furry animals called man. For thousands of years she had lived and played in her Garden of Eden, and there had been peace. Now with all her fallen brethren in shallow graves, their blood stained the hills and fields surrounding their desolate land.
"Fear not Sonia, we will not perish, I promised your Father that I would keep you safe for the rest of eternity" Marco cradled Sonia's beautiful face in his hands " And if I die trying, I will do my best to honour that promise"
Sonia nodded and with a wave of her hands the castle vanished and was replaced by a sunny suburban town.
" To the rest of eternity my love" Marco said as he lead her to one of the identical bungalows with tall elm trees separating each yard.
" To the rest of eternity..." whispered Sonia as she pushed open the front door.
Inside the house was immaculate and all the furniture looked like it had been ordered off a designer interior design catalog. There were magical flowers everywhere and the windows were large and bright with white curtains layered with lace.
"I love it!" Sonia gasped twirling around the house from room to room, gushing over the details Marco had painstakingly planned and placed into each room.
There came the sound of the doorbell, like wind chimes. They floated to the front door and opened the heavy oak doors.
A well dressed couple stood on their front steps holding a plate of what looked like brownies.
"Welcome to Alden Valley! " Said a tall willowy woman, Sonia felt strange, almost like she knew the lady from somewhere. Suddenly she noticed the woman's ears, they were just a little pointed at the ends. "Elven Ears! That's impossible, only elves could see other elven's magical pointed ears. But her kind, were gone... massacred and left for dead.
"You're elves too I see" Marco said " How is it you are here? I thought we were wiped out! I thought ..."
"That you were the only survivors?" The male counterpart finished for him " Well yes, but" Marco sputtered
The woman interrupted quickly " We came her long before the war to escape the Elven Elders." she looked down at her feet " We were not involved at all in the war, as you will discover, this is where all lost elves end up" she looked at Sonia and smiled." You will fit right in!"
Sonia and Marco looked at each other. It seemed that they were not the last of their kind! What a relief. They invited the other two elves into their home and had a long evening discussing the other inhabitants of Alden Valley and what they could do here.
They had much to look forwards to, in this new land, with elves as neighbours, they didn't feel quite as scared as before.
