ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

Adverbs of Frequency adalah keterangan yang biasa digunakan untuk menunjukkan seberapa sering suatu pekerjaan dan aktivitas dilakukan atau seberapa sering suatu peristiwa terjadi. Adverbs of Frequency dibagi menjadi dua kategori, berikut penjelasannya.

Adverb of Definite Frequency

Pada kategori ini, adverbs yang digunakan menunjukkan frekuensi dalam jumlah yang pasti. Misalnya seminggu dua kali, setiap hari, setahun sekali, dll. Berikut penggunaannya dalam kalimat:

• once, twice, three times, four times, etc.
  contoh kalimat:
  Tom teaches English twice a week.
  Once in month, we meet at the park.
  She makes sure we eat three times a day.

• every…..
  contoh kalimat:
  My father drinks coffee every morning.
  Every Eid-ul Fitr, we have family gathering.
  Matt arrives home at 9 every evening.

• daily, weekly, monthly, annually.
  contoh kalimat:
  The evaluation meeting is done weekly.
  The company conducts board meeting annually.
  Our supervisor suggested sending the activity reports daily.

Adverbs of Indefinite Frequency

Adverbs pada kategori ini hanya menunjukkan tingkat keseringan atau frekuensi dari suatu kejadian tanpa diketahui jumlah pastinya. Misalnya selalu, sering, jarang, hamper tidak pernah, dll. Berikut penggunaannya dalam kalimat:

• always (selalu)
  contoh kalimat:
  Sheryl always wakes up early in the morning.
  Tim is always full of ideas.

• usually (biasanya)
  contoh kalimat
  I usually go to work by motorcycle.
  We are usually at work until night.

• often, frequently (sering)
  contoh kalimat:
  Paul and George frequently play guitar together.
  The boss is often stressed.

• sometimes, occasionally (kadang-kadang)
  contoh kalimat:
  My wife and I occasionally watch movie at the cinema.
  Ken is quite annoying sometimes.

• seldom (jarang)
  contoh kalimat:
  I seldom see Richard at school.
  Tina is seldom late to the class.

• rarely (jarang sekali)
  contoh kalmat:
  Their marketing team is rarely seen at the office.
  Our father is rarely at home due to his work overseas.

• hardly ever (hampir tidak pernah)
  contoh kalimat:
  I hardly ever see Ben despite living in the same apartment building.
  As a diligent student, Andy is hardly ever absent from any class.

• never (tidak pernah)
  contoh kalimat:
  Idris never smokes in front of the children.
  Laura is never taught how to drive cars.

Secara umum, Adverbs of Frequency digunakan dalam kalimat Simple Present karena berkaitan dengan kegiatan atau pekerjaan yang dikerjakan berulang-ulang. Namun dalam situasi tertentu Adverbs of Frequency dapat digunakan dalam tenses yang lain. Contohnya sbb:

She has never been to Europe.
Marketing job is sometimes frustrating us.
My late grandmother was always a nice person.
When I was younger, I would usually go out on Saturday night.
After my transfer, you will frequently find me at the head office.
