Catfish (Daily Prompt for Tuesday)

"I'm so lonely, despite having achieved such success... or perhaps I'm lonely because I'm successful. In any case, I just wish I had someone to love me. To love me for who I am and not what I am."

There. Just the right amount of vulnerability to tug at her heartstrings.

Jordon smirked at his laptop screen as he hit send. He was quite skilled at this game. Trapping well to do and impressionable young women into online relationships and fooling them into parting with some of their wealth.

He didn't see himself as evil. Not at all. What Jordon was, was a survivor. He was simply trying to get by in a mean world. And it didn't really hurt those girls. He only targeted those with loads of Mummy and Daddy's money. Surely they could afford to part with some of it.

The three blinking dots indicated that Sarah, his target, was typing her response.

The reply soon appeared on his screen.

"You're so deep and sensitive, David. It's so refreshing to meet a man who is in touch with his emotions. I just want you to know that I'm here for you. You can tell me anything you want."

Hmmm.... eager to please. Good.

"My lovely, there's so much I want to share with you. But first, I'd like to take you out, and treat you like the princess that you are. Let us meet up. Tell me where you are and I will whisk you away for a romantic date."

The reply came swiftly.

"Darling I'd love to meet you. But I reckon that a date with a passionate man like you will involve more than just handholding. I just want to get to know you better before I can give myself you. I hope you understand."

Jordon ran his fingers through his hair. This one would take a bit more time and effort. No matter. He was a patient man. He needed to be in his line of work.

He carefully constructed his reply.

"Of course I understand, Sarah. We'll take it slow. We can continue to converse on this platform. Is that OK?"

"Yes David. Thank you for being so understanding."

Sarah's reply was accompanied by several heart emojis. That was a good sign. She was relaxing and letting her guard down.

It was time to pull away. For now.

"Sweetheart, I need to go to bed. I have an important board meeting to attend in the morning. Let's chat Sunday evening. Goodnight!"

"Goodnight, David. I'll miss you."

Jordon closed his laptop and went to the kitchen to make himself a sandwich. He decided to ask his roommate if he wanted something to eat.

"Hey Josh!", he called out, "you hungry? I'm making a sandwich."

Josh, who had just finished conversing with David, the wealthy businessman who was rather taken with "Sarah", did feel like he could eat a little something.

"Yeah man, I could eat a sandwich. Thanks!"

He turned off his laptop and began planning his next course of action. Once David was properly hooked, Sarah would ask the rich fool to send some money, so she could pay for the air ticket to go meet up with him.

It would require patience. But that had never been a problem for Josh. After all, patience was required in order to succeed in his line of work.
