The Carcass

The carcass rotted under the pressure of the rat trap.
It was lured by the promise of
freedom, bliss, gratification, and transcendence.
The body was mesmerized by the sensorial attractions;
it did not see the mechanisms.

After all the bones had been crushed,
After all the flesh had been mauled,
After all the blood had been drained,
After all feelings and ideas had been interpellated,
It had nothing else to offer to the machine in the garden.

[end of 5 minutes]

The body had done its best to serve a purpose.
It went through all the rites.
It was well taken care of.
It was rescued from near death several times.
It followed orders when it was demanded.
It was militant when reality negated propaganda.
It restrained and betrayed its own nature,
the flagellating desire to fit in.

But the line that separates a body from a carcass is thin.
It is a ubiquitous invisible energy field,
Trespassed with every move,
challenged at every realization,
broken with every unfulfilled promise.

And thus, the carcass rotted unseen, inconsequential.

Inconsequential because the energy is gone. We give so much import to human carcasses, sending them to the afterlife in their finery and with treasures alongside them. But human carcasses are of as little import as those of rats. Food for thought this poem. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your close reading.

Excellent description of what the certainty of death represents.
A little sad reading but located in the reality that we have to live every day. Best regards friend @hlezama.

Thanks, @felixgarciap. I appreciate your reading and comment.

Hay what's up to you? I heard something about you!
God Bless you.

Thanks for asking. I'm doing better from my kidney problem, but had to take another trip. Just arriving this mornig after 12 hours on the road (Not the best treatment for kidney stones, but it was a must).
I'll be posting about as soon as I can.
Blessings to you too.

Hope to see your writings again. Stay blessed.

@hlezama,

Well done ... but I would make one change: Change the name of the poem from "Carcass" to "Caracas."

Quill

Haha. I don't think any Caraqueño would resent the moniker. Caracas, like most of our cities, does look like a carcass

Wow! That is amazing work, @hlezama. Great job with this prompt and excellent imagery.
