Day 21 Freewrite Five Minutes- Prompt: Books
I love books. My first recollection of my love for books was Ann M. Martin's series,The Babysitters Club. Those girls were the snapshot of my youth. Kristy, MaryAnne, Claudia, Stacey, Dawn, Mallory and Jessie. I wanted to be Kristy the loud mouthed boss who loved her friends, then Dawn the cool hippie California girl who ate gluten free food before it was cool or maybe Stacey who was beautiful and vivacious and diabetes didn't phase her or Claudia the girl who loved junk food but was flawlessly beautiful. I loved the friendship between Mallory and Jessie and how their friendship defied racism with love and faith in Stoneybrook, a small town that was 99% white. Jessie was accepted by a 10 year old and a group of 13 year old girls. But I think all along I waned to be MaryAnne,the shy girl with two best friends and the gorgeous boyfriend Logan.
Thank you Ann M. Martin for all the life lessons in your books. The Babysitters Club were always my guide for friendship. I love those girls.
I never read them - now I want to. Maybe I'll read them to my grandsons :)
