On Friday, I was in my old neighborhood where I grew up, so I went to visit my favorite thrift shop. They usually have something cool that catches my eye and it's always cheap. I was looking through their display counter and saw a silver Mexican coin from 1968.
It was toned and not very pretty, but what do you want for a silver coin for $8.00. These were one of my favorite Olympic coins when I was growing up. We had friends who lived in Mexico and they had to come to the States every six months, to renew their visas I think.
Everytime they would come to town, they would bring us coins from Mexico, mostly silver back then. We took some of these Olympic coins to mamma's brothers in Italy, because they were big soccer fans. It's amazing how certain things bring back great memories when you least expect it!

Worth their weight in silver, and perhaps more if they're collectables. Silver is a great safe haven like gold, and coins are the way to do it.
