My first artichoke was painful
My first artichoke didn't come out of a cute little jar, like the one in this picture.
My mamma made my first artichoke when I was about thirteen years old.
It felt like it was a little pineapple, just laying on my plate.
I had no idea how to eat this thing. I watched my mamma pull off a leaf and dip it in olive oil and then salt.
I remember, I pierced my tongue with the first leaf, and that was long before it became so popular.
I pulled and dipped a few more leafs but it was more work than it was worth. I gave the rest to my brother, who had a lot more patience than I ever did.
Now if I feel like having an artichoke I just go to the cupboard and pull a jar of marinated artichoke hearts, and can eat as much as I want.

I've never prepared an artichoke myself. I wouldn't even know how to eat one.
Well if you ever try eating one, don't try putting the spike in your mouth first. You kinda scrap the petal across your bottom teeth, to pull the "meat" off. The olive oil was the best part. 😋
Should try our italian olive oil in a bruschetta.. always evo one, rigorously 😉
Everything tastes better in Italy. 😋
Plan a trip and we'll eat like kings!
Deal. 🇮🇹
An artichoke as a pinapple.. good one Bruni and nice memories 😉
I can still picture it, just sitting there, I guess she just steamed it. 🤔
I've only ever had marinated artichoke hearts and didn't even know those existed until my husband made us dinner with them once. Great freewrite :) I wouldn't have the patience to eat the fresh artichokes, either. It sounds like it might be good diet food, though, since you couldn't just gobble it down without thinking!
Also, I'm here to deliver today's prompt as well Daily Prompt #140
For sure, a great diet food. Might as well lick olive oil off a spoon, no spike. Thanks for helping MAW today byn.
