I was at an auction a couple of weeks ago and picked up this old silver eight reales from 1821. I usually don't buy cleaned coins, but it was cheap, and it's almost two hundred years old.
This coin was in decent shape until someone whizzed it. Whizzing a coin is usually done by using a polishing wheel to make it really shiny.
It's very irritating to me that someone could turn a $100 coin, into a $15 coin, just by polishing it. You can still see the polishing cream in the tiny crevices of this Mexico mint coin.
Please take a minute to do your homework before you do anything to old shit, you may regret your actions.
Always remember, just because it's old, doesn't mean it's worth a lot.
Also, never clean coins and always pick them up by their edges with your finger tips. It's not a good idea to cause Bruni irritation, he won't play nice!

Cool looking coin! Is this one of the pieces of eight coins?
Shame that it was ruined, but thanks for sharing it with us anyway.

Yes, these have been known as "pieces of eight". One day I'll find one in original condition to add to my collection. 🤞
