Weekend Freewrite- 9-28-2019- Single Prompt Optiotn: spider web

I have been petrified of spiders for as long as I can remember and once I found out there was a name for my fear, Arachnophobia, it was good to know that I wasn't alone. I am not afraid of a spider biting me but I am petrified of a spider crawling on me. OMG! I am getting the heebie-jeebies writing this.
In the not so distant past, if I found a spider crawling on the floor inside my house, I grabbed a phone book and dropped it on top of the spider. It had to be a heavy book so there was no chance of it escaping. After dropping the phone book I ran out of the house while making strange sounds, but that didn't help much because I was now in a place where the chances of seeing a spider was much greater. And there the phone book and hopefully, a dead spider sat until someone came home to deal with it.
Speaking of books...I have never read Charlotte's Web. And don't get me started on nursery rhymes about spiders. I read 'Little Miss Muffet' once and vowed never to read it to my kids. Of course Miss Muffet was frightened and ran away when the spider sat down beside her! If that wasn't bad enough, there is a song for children about a spider. You know the one...'Incy Wincy Spider.' You will never, ever find me using my fingers and thumbs to make them look like a spider climbing. You know how much I like to rhyme but you will never, ever find me rhyming about a spider.

Now that I am a much older adult, I will look at a spider web because I find them to be interesting works of art. The web that an orb weaver spider makes is amazing and I just had to get a photo of one that I found high up in a pine tree. I crept up slowly and just my luck, there was a huge spider sitting in the middle of her web. It wasn't easy to get the photos because I almost passed out with every click of the camera. I finally realized that I was holding my breath while taking the pictures. I also had many blurry photos from shaking so much.

I was proud of myself for getting the photos, but I had nightmares every night for a week of me being an orb weaver spider's prey. It had me in its web and was wrapping me up with its silk, saving me for a tasty meal. Thank goodness I woke up each time because if the dream continued to the point where the spider was eating me, I would have surely died in my sleep of a heart attack. OMG! I am shaking and I feel like I am going to puke! Facing my fear didn't help at all.

I don't like spiders either and I have probably dropped a book or two on them in my time, but then I stomp it down to make sure and then get rid of them. LOL.... I'm sorry, no spiders get to stay alive inside.
HaHa! I like how you stomped the book down. I couldn't do that because I was in too much of a hurry to get out of the house. LOL!
Well.... I don't want to touch them and I certainly don't want them crawling on me, but once they are dead, I don't mind getting rid of their squished carcasses ..... with a tissue or something of course. LOL !
I have gotten better. I can now pick up the dead ones but I need about 20 paper towels to do it. LOL! The spider lovers are going to hate us. : )
Sorry to the haters !
All I ask is that they don't come in my house. There is the rest of the whole wide world for them to be in. I don't think that is too much to ask.
HaHa! Every time I kill one I ask for forgiveness and then follow up by saying, "There are plenty more around to make up for this one." I don't want them in my house either and no, that is definitely not too much to ask.
I can't believe you made yourself take those pictures, despite your phobia. I understand. I have the most dreadful fear of cliffs. It's very specific. A cliff--can't go near it. Nothing would persuade me to approach a cliff, no matter how good the picture might be. You are one brave lady. And the pictures are spectacular.
I actually think the spider, in its web, is beautiful, in a menacing kind of way.
Have a peaceful day, @whatisnew, and sweet dreams :)
I still can't believe I did it either. I never heard about a specific dreadful fear of cliffs. I won't go near one either because of my fear of heights but I know that is different. We are both brave because we are both determined women! Spectacular? Wow! I truly am grateful for that compliment and it makes everything that I went through, worthwhile. Hugs! OMG! I don't see how you can think that the spider is beautiful, in any way. LOL! Sweet dreams?!?! I sure hope so after reliving my experience that day. LOL!
You have a peaceful week ahead too, my friend. Hugs!
You used the same spider in your freewrite as I did in mine ... I love orb weavers OUTSIDE!
Spiders inside, different story. The big dark brown ones here are cousins to the deadly brown recluse, and they can kill -- so, indoors, I KILL on sight.
Isn't that funny that we used the same spider.
OMG! You have a cousin to the brown recluse that kill also? I would definitely kill on sight too. Be careful! : )
Yep... Killed a beloved senior church member, took large chunks of flesh out of some younger folks -- I keep strong bug spray on hand and BIG books, because you do NOT want to get your hand anywhere near those things ...
No way! I am so sorry to hear that. Yes, you must use BIG books. Please be careful @deeanndmathews!
Yeah -- the books have to be THICK, and the attack has to be so the spider is in the middle, nowhere near the edge ... a whole science to kill or be killed ... but, that's the way it is in Northern California... at least the black widows don't get this close to the coast up here, but I've encountered those too not far from here...
What a beautiful web! The spider did her job well and you took a nice shot!
Isn't that web amazing? Thanks so much for your support @nilom. : )
Thanks a lot for sharing that fear of spiders with us @whatisnew, and it must have taken a lot of courage to take those beautiful photos, it's awesome.

Thanks so much for your support! I am very happy that you appreciated my post. You might not see any more spider photos from me though. LOL!
Thanks @whatisnew, and thank you for creating awesome content, and there are many more subjects to write about besides spiders, at least that is what I have heard, stay awesome.
I've tried to photograph spider webs with nothing like the results you got!
My mom crochets doilies, but the spiders present some serious competition. Like birds, bugs, and fish that are streamlined and aerodynamic without having to try, the spider is programmed to spin, and its silk is stronger than most man-made materials. Science borrows from the non-human works of nature.
#Spiders are so much better than flies, chiggers, ticks, gnats, and mosquitoes. Why arachnophobia instead of ALL bugs...why the spider...but I've always liked spiders and snakes while hating flies and mosquitoes. So it goes.
It sure isn't easy to get photos of a spider web. It took many, many tries. Nature never ceases to amaze me.
Most people with arachnophobia are afraid of being bitten by a spider. That is what I read. Do you just hate flies and mosquitoes or do you fear them? Who knows what makes people tick.
Your mom crochets doilies? My grandmother made some beauties.
This might be a Araneus diadematus

You just had to have me look at more spiders, didn't you? LOL! Thanks for the info.
Almost passed out? Dang, have you seen anyone about this phobia? I don't suppose you saw the movie Arachnophobia? The phone book incident was last year?
