Day 74: 5 Minute Freewrite Challenge initiated by @mariannewest. Prompt: callous

William's sacrifices were many as he climbed the corporate ladder. He was divorced because he was married to his job; not his wife. He had all of the material things that he always dreamed of but he was not happy. One weekend he made a small garden and continued until it was quite large. He found it to be physically challenging and his one callous on his hand soon became many. The more he worked in the garden the happier he became.

Tuesday morning was fast approaching and William's nerves were on edge. Hopefully he would finalize a deal he had been working on for the last 7 months which would bring millions of dollars to the company. His mentally challenging work and sleepless nights were about to pay off; handsomely. The deal went through and the new client was to return in 3 days to sign all of the necessary papers. William walked the client to the door and they shook hands. 30 minutes later, the deal was off. The new client explained, "I changed my mind after I shook your hand. I am an important man with a prestigious position and I wouldn't be caught dead associating with a laborer."

William quit his job that day; not wanting to be associated with any of the like's of him, and was the happiest he had ever been. He finally found true happiness that went deep within his soul; happiness that could never be bought with all of the money in the world. Living off of the land and enjoying the fruits of his labor was the most rewarding accomplishment by far.
