FRIDAY FIVE MINUTES FREEWRITE-PROMPT: ASH
This is my freewrite for Good Friday. It is hosted by @mariannewest and it's s sure way to kick-start the creative juices.
The prompt this time is Ash and it is indeed fitting. Well here goes nothing.
Time starts: 09:13am
Ashy tears fall, snow flakes
Of some other winter flutters
Between my eyelashes
And kiss my lips.
I draw a streak from side to side,
From the top to the bottom
Of my forehead; my thoughts on death.
Shadows squirming in the dust,
Begging for something akin to air,
As ashes cling to our lungs
And the fires flicker ever burning, ever hot.
Of ashes and dust and it pierces
These wretched souls
Like bullets, like bird songs,
Like the wind, like the ashes
On their knees.
The world burns.
And salvation is gone.
What is left but ashes and dust.
Nice poem! It is hard to get a good poem out in the 5 mins on the freewrites, I've done a few myself and the time pressure got to me on some of them. I loved the sibilance in the first verse between 'Ashy + 'eyelashes'
Thank you bro @raj808. The pressure is something I enjoy as I have to think fast and type fast also. 😂
Thanks for stopping by.
