The Park

in #freewrite5 years ago

In this culture of ever fractured families a couple walked quietly holding a hand of their child in their center. They spoke softly to one another and laughed as the little girl giggled at the dog running ahead in the city park. His hair was fluffy and his bark enthusiastic. They walked by a young woman holding the leash who knelt on the sidewalk calling "Darkie, come on, it's time to go home." The pup turned back and wagged it's flurry tail swiftly.

They stopped a moment to ask if the child could pet the dog and it sat to accept her small hands timidly stroking it's head. She impulsively hugged the pup and he wriggled happily beneath her small arms. Mom and Dad talked to the dog's owner and moved off to the enticing playground releasing their little girl to run squealing to the slides where other children filed in line to walk the short stretch of metal steps.

The parents sat on a bench watching her climb the steps holding on to the railing carefully. At the top she sat and turned to her parents and waved with a brilliant smile flashing to shout, "Here I go! Watch me Mommy and Daddy!" then pushed off to sail to the bottom.

The air was breezy and her hair lifted lightly behind her. She launched to her feet at the bottom giggling and ran to meet her parents.

The two stood to greet her and went patiently to each activity as the child played and with flushed cheeks she chatted freely with the other children.

Sun began to wane and night air brought a chill and the family approached the end of the amusements with a little girl slowing her steps. Her father scooped her up in his arms as her mother put a light sweater on her daughter and they walked back to the car. Once the little girl was buckled in the car securely, the father drove from the park. The girl quickly fell asleep as her parents talked amongst themselves and made plans for tomorrow.

A little boy watched the family leave and sat quietly beside a small woman. She was his aunt, but he called her "Min." He wondered what it was like to have a mom and dad at the same time. Min looked down at the pensive child and patted his arm protectively. "Are you ready to leave, Bobby?" He nodded and walked with her, wrapping his hand in hers with hungry eyes still following the disappearing car.

Well done! Lovely scene with mom, dad, and little girl in park, complete with a puppy dog; cut to A little boy watched the family leave and... wondered what it was like to have a mom and dad at the same time. You really pack a punch with that one. I just want to hug him and take him home with me.

Thanks so much @carolkean
I really allowed this one to develop of its own and funny how it did.
