A Fortunate Moment
The dreaded grocery shopping trip was over and the five mile drive home from Walmart was leisurely in the chilly twilight. We passed along a curvy stretch of road only to surprise two wild turkeys followed by two startled deer. I mourned that I missed the opportunity to photograph them, having just cautioned my son to watch for deer and he explained we probably missed them as it was after 7:00 p.m. A third shift employee, he confided that he sees around 30 white tail deer every night on the short drive to his job. I disagreed knowing how many deer have met untimely ends at the front end of my Buick Lacross which still bears the scars of the deer accident last fall. Two prior deer had collided with her previously in 2018.
Not three minutes down the road I was not disappointed. Three more deer crossed slowly in front of us and then stopped to stare at our progress. We stopped and Ben snapped a few pictures. They finally ran into the wood. A minute or two more down the same road we flushed out two more deer and another doe lingered on the right side of the road, eager to follow her companions, but standing back from the road as our car blocked her path.
I was able to capture her staring out nervously as her friends moved on before she turned her white tail flag in alarm and backed farther into the woods toward safety. What luck it was to get a chance to witness these beautiful creatures in their woody habitat.

Caught by surprise.
Feeling unthreatened by our stop by the road.

You were able to capture some great photos of the deer. I enjoyed your freewrite and had the same experience when I saw a wild turkey on the side of the road and never got a photo.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. We have a lot of wildlife around, but they can be quick to skitter off.

Beep Boop. Thanks for being a supporter of the creativebot.
Those deer are very dear to me. <3
Great shots!! I love the write-up as much as the pictures. You really capture personalities. Not an easy subject to catch on film.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed these. It took some playing with the brightness in PS to pull out her face. The dark eyes captured my attention and she did seem to have quite the personality of the top photo doe. Have a great Sunday!

Most welcome :)
Lovely that you spotted them like that! We have lots and lots of them around our town; they are practically tame because so many locals have been feeding them over the years. It's very sweet when they come through the yard with baby fawns in the spring... less "sweet" when they turn our kitchen garden into their own personal salad bar!
=^..^=
Oh, yes they are beautiful but I know how destructive they can be, too. I have had over 8 deer accidents. It's a real problem here!
