#freewriting - #Best-friends...
"Every aspect of your stay is designed to ensure that you leave feeling better than when you arrived", she said. He looked around him...
I care, she said, I really do!
If you die, all will be different. You know, as my husband asked me how I wanted to celebrate my birthday I even said not, since how can I celebrate if my best friend is not present?
It did not comfort him to hear her say these words...
So he was only good enough to stay alive because soon it would be her birthday? Not one word about the pain he had to live with day and night, all these hours he had to spend in bed...waiting.
There was no hope. Nobody ever visited him. Best friends? Really? It did not feel like it. He felt tired and hated her, wondered how soon she would dump him again.
He thought about his best friend Marie.
She died years ago. How Marie cried, because she was in such a pain and her kids did not allow her to. There always was an other reason why she was not allowed to: a birthday, the holidays...
Nobody cared about how she felt. Nobody visited her or hold her. Only he did.
He was not in the mood to listen to her blah blah and focused on the table, thinking about a way to escape. The only thing that would make him feel better was staying at home, alone, with the right to die.
At least the spider was gone. That had not been the case when he heard the shriek overhead.
It did not bother him.
The caring was over a long time ago.
He heard Marie her last words: "I am so sorry, but I can't live any longer."
He knew she couldn't, they both cried, said goodbye and she died the day of his daughters birthday.
"Do you hear what I say at all", she asked.
He was not in the mood to answer her or even look at her. Why should he care about her birthday? She never cared about his. Not as it was his fortieth, fiftieth or sixtieth birthday. What made her think she was so special?
She did text to invite him to stay at her place, she would take care of him.
She was full of self-confidence as she showed up at his doorstep and dragged him over to her place. Assured him he would feel better soon, she did care and was a real friend. How come each time he answered her question how he feels she turned out to be deaf?
The heel fell off her shoe as she turned around and left the room.
As she closed the door he heard a click.
That damned bitched locked the door, he thought. He knew it, it was not about him,9 his welfare at all.
He remembered how Marie warned him. "Stay out of her way she is evil", that was what she said.
He was willing to give her what she asked for.
He would feel better at the moment he would leave. He smiled and his left hand felt the inside of his pocket. It was still there.
He thought about the two black cats he ones had. Siyah and Simsek. They were so close. One day they both disappeared. After a long time only Simsek came back. Somebody shot at him. After he recovered he'd disappear again. This time he never came back. He was sure the cat left to find his brother. He wondered if the cats would wait for him.
Slowly he walked to the heel, picked it up and pushed it underneath the door.
"Thanks", he said, "I wish you a happy birthday in advance."
The bed was not that bad at all. As he closed his eyes he saw Marie waving at him.
"There you are", she said, "what took you so long?"
He smiled as he saw his 2 black cats next to her, running towards him.
She was right, he already felt way better as at the moment he arrived.
The picture is made by me of a birthday card.

hi @wakeupkitty,
""Every aspect of your stay is designed to ensure that you leave feeling better than when you arrived"......
This opening statement is simply fantastic!
"She was right, he already felt way better as at the moment he arrived."
The opening statement is absolutely true and the proof of the same can be found in the last line mentioned above.
So there is no need for a person to be present near them and even if they are far-off or even not alive, a simple REMEMBRANCE about that person is enough to give peace to the concerned person's mind!
Beautiful @wakeupkitty.....your story has stolen my heart.
Keep up with your good work.
