Very nicely put. Nothing has value until we place value on it. This is probably a little odd. In the Fallout games, their monetary system is bottlecaps. Old paper money has no value. So from a past perspective to a post-apocalyptic look, it's all where we place our value.
The question would be what function does that bottle cap have that gives it intrinsic value? Most things that have value extend from the purpose driven function in everyday life or as a sign of stature.
You are right about where we assign our value yet I still wonder why gold, so many other metals have multiple functions yet gold the most useless in everyday life has been held above all others 🤔
