Writing Basics
Writing may be the most complicated yet still the simplest form of art I know. Complicated because it is a skill that you have to keep polishing or else, you will fall behind. Those famed for being masters of pens keep reminding budding writers when they ask how they can get good at scribing to write, write, w.r.i.t.e., write, WRITE and never stop.
Therefore, the first basic rule of writing if you hope to get good at it is to keep writing.
To be able to keep writing, you gotta have a flow of endless words and vocabularies spewing from your mind. That means your mind has to feed those words by reading or listening to audiobooks. I prefer reading myself and I love hard copies but when I don't have one with me, Kindle is always readily available.
Second basic writing rule is if you want to write, read as much as you can. Steemit has awesome authors and bloggers who can teach a thing or two about writing, read. READ.
If you plan to post what you've written, you have to know apps or sites like Grammarly, to help you improve your grammar. You also need to learn how to space your work. Small paragraphs win most readers as none wants to read whatever you are writing be it a freewrite like this one or a poem or a story in one huge block of a paragraph. Reading should be appetizing, remember that always.
The third basic writing rule therefore is, check your grammar, edit your work and please reread it. Followed by spacing your work. EDIT and SPACE your work.
For something to be appetizing enough for your readers, especially on a platform like Steemit or Wordpress, there has to be a photo representing the photographic side of the story. The photo has to be portraying something about whatever you will choose to write on.
The fourth basic writing rule then is to add color or spice up these usually black letters is to add a photograph or a drawing or a painting. Whatever suits your work.
This is optional but I think it's a plus if you do it... Sign your work. Say something at end of your post. If it's a story or a poem you can ask people what they think about your work. Or simply thank them for even visiting your blog. I find it very polite when someone's work is signed.
Optional choice, sign your work.
If people read your posted work, reply to their comments if there are any. That is how you build a relationship with your readers. Also if they criticize it, check where you can improve but don't dwell on critics. If you think you can write, then you can write, you just need to focus and keep perfecting your skill.
I will stop there. I hope you find something useful there, keep writing :)

Thank you for coming.
Fabulous recommendations!
My only advice is to keep on writing because as Hemingway said, and I paraphrase, Most days I try to write the best I can, and other days I try to write better than I can.
Anyway, I'm bringing today's prompt and it reminds me of the movie Multiplicity where a guy makes a copy of himself to keep up. Then the copies start making copies: "He's special, all right. - We made a copy from Two. Sometimes a copy from a copy is not quite as sharp as the original."
Great movie! Anyway, today's prompt has to do with the word copy: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-266-5-minute-freewrite-thursday-prompt-copy. Join us at the @FreeWriteHouse.
A great resource for writing tips. Thanks a lot for summing this up. It reminds me actually that I have started to read a book on my Kindle some time ago which cries for some attention from me. 😁
Go attend to it. Thank you for dropping by :)
