the heat and humidity

I don't remember the humidity of Virginia ever bothering me as much as the heat of Los Angeles. But...in Virginia we had central air conditioning. If I was doing things in the summer, I was usually only doing outdoor things in the morning. So I don't remember the humidity really being an issue. There's something languid about it, anyway. It's such a different feeling than the discomfort of being way too hot AND feeling like the sun is my enemy like I feel on hot days here in Los Angeles. Lack of shade is a big issue in L.A. A lot of the problems on hot days could be solved if I could stay in the shade when I went outside. Well, I don't know about a lot of the problems, but I feel like that would be a great start. Really, what are we all doing in the city? I get the need and the reasons people come together in cities, but why does it have to be at the expense of trees? L.A. really needs more trees. And fewer cars. I hate cars so much sometimes. And it's not just that I hate the people driving them--I hate what cars do to people who drive them. They don't act like humans anymore. They act as if they and the people they could potentially kill are invincible. There was a story in the paper a couple days ago about a jogger that got hit by a car and died. The driver was 20, was going faster than the speed limit, and didn't stop at the stop sign. And they weren't charged with anything. I wish that everyone that drove unsafely would just not be able to drive anymore.
