prompt is Texas
Driving through Texas that time on the last day of the year was scary. It was the 3rd and last day of our trip, we’d started in Raleigh, threading the needle between two winter storms. In Oklahoma, where we stayed the night before, power lines were down all over, and in one town where we stopped for gas there was a giant mudpit, half iced over, inside the cloverleaf exit ramp—it looked like a tractor trailer had over turned and many other vehicles were needed to drag it out. (The whole town had no power—we could not get gas). The hotel we stayed in (another small town in Oklahoma) had just gotten its power back after three days without. There was a Ganesh statue behind the front desk, it was a Sai Baba licensed Motel 6.
But Amarillo and the rest of Texas we got through with no trouble, though we could tell from I70 it had been hit by the ice storm. It was beautiful from a distance: low trees iced over and clouds rising up from the highway. We got through Texas and made it to Santa Fe in time to have a beer downtown on New Year’s Eve, a beer with an alien on it.
There was snow and ice in Texas? Yeah, that sounds a little scary and interesting too. I'm from Oregon but my brother lived in Texas and I love Texas.
it was a weird storm, and also we passed a lot of flooding around the Mississippi, mile after mile of flooded fields. I've never spent real time in Texas, would like to. Safe travels @joeyarnoldvn.
Interesting. Very exciting. How are you?
I like this expression:
Really captures the sense of adversity and fragility in the face of the elements. One day I hope to make a similar trip, hopefully in much better weather! Thanks for the read.
thank you @lazarus-wist. I've traveled across the USA a lot of times, and every time I go through ice storms, tornadoes, small town cop raids, something. Makes for good stories, scary times. Good luck in your own travels.
That's the good stuff - the spice of life. Just remember to keep the windows rolled up haha.
Journeys are always interesting and exciting! Thanks for taking us along and here's to alien beer :D
Anyhow, I'm in charge of delivering today's prompt, so here ya go:

We traveled far and wide and threaded many needles. None scared me more or made me feel more at home than the unknown mystery that sat beside me.
