DAILY PROMPT: SWIRLS OF CIGARETTE SMOKE
For as Long as I have lived I knew nothing different. It was like that time, culture was ingrained into the walls of a beautifully decorated very
"scare face" interior Miami home. My Uncle, Aunt, Mother and Father would play cards. They'd have house parties. One turn our house, one turn theirs. My house had a full bar, dance floor and lights. You name it; shag red carpet lined the walls and beads hung as room separators.They'd set up the dining area for their night of cards when at my house. I would hide under the table and wait for their drunk asses to drop change and they did; it was great being a kid in the 80s. A quarter went a long way.
Slowly as the years went on, the parties became less; mostly centered on holidays. Those dancing swirls of cigarette smoke stained the walls in memories of a decade long since past. Simultaneously the little lines forming at the pucker of every butt. Years of work; like the yellow stained wall paper. Beauty fades; deception is tempting, almost beautiful. Life started to get real. The 80s was over.
