Lamenting the monkey - Freewrite 146

in #freewrite7 years ago

I've never really had a thing for monkeys. Sure, some are cute. But others not so much. I'll get to the not so much in a minute. Yesterday my son was watching a YouTube plushie video (stuffed animals come to life to tell stories. In case you didn't know). In it, they had a monkey who was causing trouble. Well, my son, a collector of plushies of all sorts NEEDED to get that monkey.

He promptly checked on Amazon and found it. "Only $9.99," he said. Mind you he's 12, doesn't yet have an income and recently received a full set of FNAF plushies totally about $80. But I digress. I laughed when I saw it because it was a Ty monkey. One I'm sure we had during the frenzy of Beanie Babies in the 1990s. Almost all the beanies have been donated since then (my mom had hundreds - hundreds!). So we went to Goodwill to look for one. He ended up with an elephant which makes me very happy.

Why? That's because monkeys tend to throw things at me. When I was young visiting the Philadelphia zoo, one of them picked up a pile of poo and slung it at me. Thank God it was glass windows. When we visited Puerto Rico in 2011, the little monkeys in the sanctuary threw ROCKS at me and my daughter! I've never done anything other than look at them. So I'm happy to have a new elephant, though my son still laments the monkey...

Sort:

I never had a monkey throw anything at me - but I think most zoos have glass now and I haven't been at a place to see them in the wild

Once a mini-monkey grabbed my finger with her little hand.. it was an akward feeling, the hand of an imp 😅 I like the way you write about your experiences.. very enjoyable. Welcome to the freewrite and keep it up!

Thank you. I have no idea why they throw things at me. Maybe two experiences aren't enough to judge, but they were my only two experiences...
Glad to be here!
