Freewrite Day 129 - The broken hand
Jose had been out in the garden working when Maria heard him howling. She went outside and saw him clutching his hand.
"Oh Dear Lord - what have you done to yourself? "
He raced into the house and grabbed a towel. His hand was bleeding and when she finally got the towel away, the thumb, including the thumbnail and the next fingernail were torn, along with a lot of the fingers.
"How on earth did you manage that?"
"I was just cutting the overgrown branches on the tree and missed with the saw"
She called 911. The bleeding did not stop and she wasn't going to get all of that blood into the car. Also, he was looking pale.
It felt like an age before the guys arrived. They had a pressure dressing to stem the bleeding and started to set Jose into the stretcher. She started to cry as she talked to one of them.
"What are we going to do? He can't manage without his right hand? He has to work and that hand is now mangled."
The ambulance officer looked at her and put a steady hand on her shoulder.
"Just take all of those thoughts out of your mind. We'll get him quickly to hospital and it is amazing what they can do. It's one step at a time - you just blank your mind of the future and deal with the now."
She took in the words and watched as he was taken away. He was right - there were jobs to do now. She had to clean all of that disgusting blood off the floor.
One thing at a time.
cringe not for the faint of heart is right! However, I thought you did a fantastic job with the prompt! Eek I do hope he's okay though!
Thanks :) It's kind of true to life because I see a lot of it in fasttrack at work. The Do It Yourself guy who slipped with the saw or fell from the ladder. When I saw 'fingernail' I couldn't help myself...
Very well done and that's life - something that is too true! Great job :)
Well done!
Here is the prompt for today: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-130-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-wasps.
Why do I feel this one might be right up your alley too?
