st. Elmo's fire (fiction story)

In a mountain place of Mindanao Philippines there is a small brgy. named Balingasag. They have a small population because it is far from the town. If you ride a motorcycle of going into that brgy from town, you'll arrive at approximately one and a half hour. The people live there in peace, they survive through farming. The adult people stay midnight outside and sometimes slept outside. The children played until 6 in the evening happily but it was change when the st. elmo's fire roaming arround in the brgy. According to their ancestors, st. elmo's fire will show up when a ghost body has nowhere to find and needs justice.

The st. elmo's fire shows up during 1968. The children was playing happily in the street. They were laugjing out loud, they ran in the court and in the street. It was friday on September when the cold wind blowing the whole brgy. The children just ignored because in their place cold wind is normal. They have many trees and plants and in the evening the whole brgy will covered with fog. While playing one kid sense something, he thought it's kind of different from a normal wind. He touched his playmate and said....

"You didn't feel simething Jack?

"Nothing, it's just a normal wind." Jack replied immediately and continue to play.

Simon still troubled of what he felt, he kept on looking side by side. He wanted to forget so he decided to play along with hia friends. The moment he almost forget another soft wind blows and he heard something and it's slow like a whisper. He focused his ears in the sound because of curiosity. He stay away with his friends to listen it carefully and the voice became clearer.

"huhuhuhuhu.....hmmmmm."

A voice was crying, a woman cried silently. He listened to it carefully where it came from. He move step by step because he was afraid. He couldn't say a word, his body started to be afraid. The voice became closer and closer. He thinks it came from the back so he turn his head slowly, slowly...and slowly..
Simon ran as fast as he can. He left his friends playing because of what he saw. A pale woman with no face to explain. The other children saw so they also went home like Simon did. Their parents asked them what happened but the children didn't answer. They were all trembling and crying because of fear. But the parents heard something walking outside with chain. A woman's voice crying while roaming in the whole brgy. They heard the sound of the chain that touches the ground. The voice of a woman was very cold. Her voice made you afraid because of it's sadness feeling. The next day all houses were closed at 5 in the afternoon. The fire ball started to show up. Even the adults were afraid because the fire will come near if he saw someone. The whole brgy felt like abandoned in the evening. No one stayed outside no one's voice will heard in each household.

One evening the fire get inside in the house. That house belongs to Simon. His father was knows as the "herb doctor or tambalan in bisaya". This tambalan is popular for paranormal answer, they are the one who fight evil. The woman get inside their house and show her true face even if she's a ghost. Simon recognize it.

"This girl is Ellen."

Ellen came from in their brgy, their family was known as one of the stayble life. It was just a month ago when Ellen was disappear.

The father of Simon, Tonyo face the ghost.

"What can I do for you."

"Sir, please pray for me, my burden is very heavy, I have a child when I was dead."

The smell of their house became produce f bad odor because of the girl's appearance. Mang Tonyo, father of Simon decided to help he girl but he must call a priest first. Luckily Father Joven agreed to came along. The woman guided them where she was located.

As Mang Tonyo and Father Joven walking in path where the woman guided. So many undefined sounds they heard. There was an animal shouting like a horse, there was a carabao running towards them. The path was dark and during that time there were no flashlight. They only brought a lamp and a dried leaves of coconut that is on fire. Mang Tonyo knows how to enchant a latin and the priest knows how to pray to disperse evil. They arrived at the place where the body of the woman. The smell of the place is very bad. It feels like they can't breathe. They found the woman commit suicide and then the woman tells a story why.

Just a month ago he was very happy with his boyfriend Mark. They loved each other eventhough her parents are against of it because they have different religion. Her parents was so devoted and serious about religion and they can't accept someone that was not belong in their religion. She was very happy when she was pregnant because she thought her father will accept the guy if he knew she was pregnant. But her expectations didn't come true. Her father still didn't accept the guy. Her father threatened the guy to kill him if he still shows up in her front again and Ellen was advice to kill that child inside in her. Ellen was escape in their house to go in other place with Mark. She want to find Mark but she couldn't find it. She felt very hopeless, broken and alone as she remember how happy they were in yesterday. That's why she decided to end her life by suicide.

Ellen done telling her story and Mang Tonyo along with the priest started praying. Two of them praying but the demons on their back keep on disturbing them to lose their focus. If they lose their focus the demon will devour them. Fortunately the two of them used to it so the prayers went well and the woman gone. Mang Tonyo and Father Joven went into the brgy peacefully. The st. Elmo's fire was no longer there to find.

But nowadays why the fire showed up again. Is there someone was dead that wasn't found? What's the fire brings a story now?
