Let's Go For A Drive

“Let's drive this thing, it looks awesome,” said Lucy.

“Yes, let's do it,” replied Lucy's friend.

“This is just an amazing vehicle, and we have plenty of passengers,” said Lucy.

“But you only have twenty,” replied Lucy's friend.

“Twenty is plenty,” said Lucy. “It's the quality not the quantity. For in this bus we have a group of the finest storytellers the world has ever seen. From the Freewrite House, I believe.”

“...and what do you plan to do with these fine storytellers?" asked Lucy’s friend.

“Drive them off the edge of a cliff, of course,” said Lucy. “They're going to die. That's one of the perks of not being human. You can drive vehicles off a cliff and live to tell the tale.”

So where are they?

How about Italy, going up a cliff mountain just like in the original Italian Job movie. Except with an evil immortal driving the bus.

Despite Lucy's immortality, she loses control of the vehicle.

“What happened?” asked Lucy. She looks around but her friend has disappeared. I suppose she doesn't have any real friends.

The coach is dangling off the edge of the cliff. All of the passengers, from the Freewrite House, then move to the back of the bus. This is so that their weight will to stop it toppling over.

Where is Lucy? She is gone too. There instead appears to be another driver. This time it is a man. He peers his head around.

“Hi there, don’t worry. You could say, that I am the opposite of Lucy,” said the man.

“I have an idea.”

“Do you fancy another story?”

Like a b-side but possibly the best story I have ever written. Hey, you get the recorded version too. I wrote this late yesterday evening and recorded it earlier today.

Storytelling Has Been Destroyed

Script

“I'm very sorry to tell you this, but storytelling has already been destroyed. People don't have any interest in stories anymore. The world that you know is gone.”

This is sad, storytellers, freewriters, novelists, screenwriters, etc. You are not needed. The world wants something different. Something real.

Therefore, what can be done if nobody wants a story anymore? Should we continue to tell them anyway?

“I like your story,” said young Johnny.

“Why don't you create some of your own?”

“Can I?” said Johnny.

He shouldn't need to ask. Of course he can tell a story. Maybe he could tell his stories to a few friends. Maybe they will like his stories and tell stories of their own.

“This could really take off,” said Johnny.

It did. Johnny wrote amazing stories. All kinds of stories. He got noticed. He got published. He signed autographs in bookshops, people queued for miles.

“We love your stories,” shouted one of his fans. “What will you write about next?”

“Something different,” replied Johnny. “I'm going to write a story about a world where people don't want stories anymore.”
