General advice in FreeWrite

"... and please, don't give general advice..."

"why not?"

"The problem with the general advice is that everybody knows about it. You've assumed that people don't follow it because they are stupid. Instead, you should have assumed that they don't follow it because they know something that you don't, but simply don't tell you about it. That's why when you give a general advice one looks either stupid or like a hypocrite. More importantly, don't give advice if no one asked you for it "

To quote the divine Oscar, and I frequently do 'I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself.'

ahahah... Sure if this is good advice; advice that is considering all the facts. That isn't always available. I'll give you an example.

A person is attempting to swim across the river while there is a bridge. Obvious general advice will be "why swim when you can walk over the bridge?"

Little did the adviser know, the bridge was about to collapse. )))
