Day 192: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: bamboo
BAMBOO IN THE PHILIPPINES
Bamboo is abundant in the Philippines. In fact I hadn't been into any part of the Philippines that I hadn't seen any bamboo growing. It is a part of our culture and tradition. Bamboo tree is used to build a house or any structure livable either by human or animals. It's twigs is used to support properties for it is liked a barbed wire. The bamboo shoots is my favorite because we can use it for cooking. There are menus in the Philippines that uses bamboo shoots. To mention a few :
- Bamboo Shoots Vegetable Soup
- Bamboo Shoots Spring Roll
- Boiled Pork with Bamboo Shoots
BUT...
Another familiar usage of bamboo in the Philippines is building chicken coop. There are so many chicken coop design all over the world but in the Philippines what makes it unique is the bamboo material. In the Philippines a chicken coop is called "Tangkal".
The tangkal is used keep chicken during night time because during the day time they are allowed to roam around.
