I heard some martial artist saying that if you're going to start a fight, it's better you don't wear any item of clothing or jewelry the adversary could grab and take a grip on you. I think @f3nix could confirm that.
I often struggle with the practical safety of a clip on tie, and my pride in being able to tie a double windsor knot.
