The Smell of a Dumpster - Freewrite
November 27th.
Today started just like any other day.
I woke up with a start to the beating heart of my tiny alarm clock, urinated forcefully, and chose a package of coffee to start brewing in the kitchen.
From the couch I turned on the TV to listen to some boring newscaster ramble on.

Some infection happening in Pakistan. Everyone's got it. Not here, don't care.
I was just getting my second cup of coffee when I heard a crash from outside in the parking lot of my apartment complex.
Swinging open the balcony door I stepped onto the concrete surface and peered over the ledge.
Two dirty and disheveled men were chasing a young woman with a butcher knife as she shrieked at the top of her lungs.
A small boy sat on a bench with a large brown dog in his lap. He appeared to be kissing it. Suddenly he looked up at me with blood pouring from his lips.
SCREW THIS. I'm out.
I slide on a pair of pants and a white T-shirt and slam open the front door.
I can hear sirens in the background as a neighbor screams from around the corner.
Down the steps. I have to move quickly.
CRAP they are everywhere.
I start running in a random direction. A large green dumpster catches my eye. With a quick leap I jump inside the small rectangular hole.
Landing hurts. It smells like death in here but at least I am alone.
I'd like to wait for whatever's happening outside to be over.
I have no idea how long that's going to be.
