One glass of whiskey.

That's what Martha drinks everyday at 2 in the afternoon.

It was a habit she had picked up from her husband when he was still alive.

She didn't really think of it as an addiction, but rather, as something to relax her during the day.

One glass of whiskey..... but the glass was getting bigger and bigger.

It was a Wednesday afternoon when they found her on the edge of the overpass throwing rocks at cars down below.

She was perched precariously on the railing.

Try to imagine a petite 84 year old woman in a black pencil skirt and white blouse, hair tied in a bun, tossing large blunt objects into traffic below.

"What do you mean dangerous? It's comforting."

"You are going to kill somebody that way ma'am......... we don't throw rocks off the highway."

Of course she didn't remember doing anything like that the next day.

Incidents like this continued to crop up all over the place.

She ran streaking through the neighborhood completely naked.

She stole the neighbor's mailbox.

She rounded up all the dogs from the alley and put them in her backyard to have a dog party.

She was already getting old you see I'm losing her mind so drinking it just wasn't helping.

It's comforting though to have a glass of whiskey during the day.

Life is lonely when you're on your own.

Life is lonely when you're all alone.

It might be sad but for Martha that glass of whiskey at 2 in the afternoon was basically all that she had left in life to look forward to.

Can you blame her for it?
