I just don't know anymore, man...

Wildfires are scary. The thought of losing everything. Everything. Gone in a moment. Gone before you even realize.

You return and there's nothing but ashes. You kick over a tangled mass of metal that used to be a camping chair, and underneath you find... nothing. The heat has incinerated it all. Inside your refrigerator is the melted plastic in a frozen pool, and another tangle of metal you think was the shelving? No. It's what was inside.

The worst part of this particular fire is the sense of lost memories. You have your memories, but they're ash now. Everything you had that was supposed to help jog your memories, all the papers, heck those digital photos that you never got around to backing up to the cloud. Heck, all those dumb, half-written papers that you thought were too dumb, well you'll never get to remember that in college you thought it was cool to write about Martin Heidegger even though you didn't really understand.

It's all gone. And you wish you could get it back. But you can't.
