The attic is where we keep Bastian, the boy stuck in a book. His face is plastered on the walls, and his books line the shelves. He tells us that he is happier this way, but I can't imagine, being always only in one story. He says it is the best story. A story in which everything and anything is possible. I wouldn't want that. I would want one story where some things are impossible, and a different story where those things are possible, but other things are impossible. If everything is possible, where is the story. All things happen, so nothing might as well happen. Entropy and stakes..

There's the question. Are all things... is the set of all things finite? And, if it is, is the set of all things positive or negative? Can more positive things happen than negative things? Now, we can certainly say that those are absurd human notions, but granting that for a time, from an absurdly human perspective, can there be more wonderfulness or more awfulness overall?

Some things we almost all agree are bad, right? Murder and death... certainly, there are folks who disagree... but let's say that the joint overall feeling of individual humans, accumulated. Their opinions in aggregate rank the positive or negative qualities of all things.
