No panic!
Take a deep breath. Let out all that anguish. Sure, healthcare is scary. Who wants to be without insurance? And let’s talk about Medicare for all. Ho boysie. Why not? I know people are talking about it being unreasonable, but how so? By hiding behind the idea of capitalism being better able to do things? Unlikely. Listen, it’s not a good enough solution by a long shot, the idea of simply piecemeal making things a little better for the poorest folks but retaining the system by which they are made poor, but it’s a little better. A little better!
Here’s my platform for, if I don’t get to be at the head of a government willing to embrace actual structural changes that give workers rights and yadda yadda. Let me get into it.
Medicare for all!
Convert the armed forces into forces that can provide infrastructure building, supportive services, and health and childcare workers both in the U.S. and abroad.
Housing as a right! Build sufficient housing in high density areas and offer it for free to residents.
A basic income? Might be irrelevant if we do all the other things, but sure!
Food stamps (EBT) for all!
Preserve and expand the national parks system.
Massive renewable energy building. Turn off major sources of carbon nigh immediately.
Plant LOTS of trees. Fund other carbon sequestration.
Pay for it all with very high taxes on the wealthiest individuals and corporations. Tax corporate value, not earnings. Amazon does not get to pay $0 in taxes.
Anywhoodles. Come at me, libertarians.
@improv We fall through the cracks, we do not make enough money for Obamacare and make to much for the other, so we are left without insurance. Your ideas are good ones but "they" will not let it happen.
That's awful! In my state, there's assistance if you're in that in-between zone to help you afford the insurance. But it shouldn't be necessary, really. There's all this absurd bureaucracy standing between patients and doctors, and it's all just there so that insurance companies can make profits.
@improv We have been fortunate to have found good doctors that work with us. If we have something like my cataract surgery we save up and pay cash. They charged us what Medicaid would pay them. But I fear if we have a major medical emergency. I wish this state had assistance for those like us. yes it is all about the money and not the quality of someone's life. It is sad.
They are revolutionary ideas that I think should serve in an ideal wold "no panic".
