She tramped through the muddy woods. Each Splorch of her shoe brought it a little closer to getting lost entirely. She kept going. Somewhere in this wood was a beacon. A point of light that existed solely to guide her to itself. If she could find it, she'd never be lost again. And boy oh boy was she lost.

The feeling that she was headed in the right direction was always with her, but it always led her astray. It was impossible to ignore, though. It wasn't as if heading off in a slightly different direction was going to go any better for her. There would always be plenty of lost to get, so if feeling right was available to her, even if she knew she was wrong, she would take it.

Her fiance worried after her. He had gps and guidance apps up the wazoo, but he could never persuade her to use one. "I'll break it," she said. The truth was, she knew, deep down, that there was something mystical about her always being lost. She didn't want to upset the balance of whatever mystery lay in the world by finding her way by nonmagical means.

This beacon was just magical enough to please her. Of course it might always be a lie, and it might be impossible to find, that being the nature of her fate.
