Hiding in plain sight -5minutefreewrite

The rain ceased for the last time and all we were left with was a soggy idea. There was too much dryness, too little wetness, and ennui and ... that word... that word. The heat death of the universe. ex... no that word that - entropy.
Entropy and ennui left us looking at our wet wooden duck. Spying on our unnecessary umbrellas.
It wasn't necessary, but none of the best things are necessary. Is food necessary, yes, but is sorbet? No, but it's nice. Of course there's no sorbet now. Only sand. Sand and the idea of water.
Soggy bottoms on pies are a thing of the past. Paul Hollywood will kill now to get a soggy bottom, but instead he's left with perfect crusts. He surely wishes that he could take back all he said denigrating soggy bottoms. That duck.
That duchess duck. Tattered and battered and wearing bandages where nails should go. Wet and wary, and unnecessary. How will we know when it's time for frivolity? We'll ask the duck, but he'll no longer quack.
We won't again say, "like water off a duck's back." And so, we won't be able to let things go because we won't have the words for it.
The sorrows and sorries will pour. The grudges will build. The
Deep indeed. I had to read it several times. Good work.
Here's today's prompt for your delectation:

Thanks!
Man, I'm so happy to see that your posts have been doing better than before. It's a shame that you're not leading the charge with the freewrite initiative, as I feel like you should be getting more credit than you are. But, at least there's more exposure to the tag now, and more and more people are getting in on it. I guess the freewrite series I did was way before its time.
This one is such a smart post. I like how you pivoted to the heat death of everything. That became deep really quickly. I hope you're doing well, Brendan. More success to you!
Thanks @jedau! And thanks for stopping by! @mariannewest is doing a ton of the organizing work, which is the real work. I'm glad folks are enjoying these, and pleased as punch that it's such a friendly, loving community! Headed over to your page now to see what I've missed since last I was there!
I still do feel that you should be getting a lot more credit for it.
I see my name popping up - Gina bot. @jedau - why do you feel this way? curious minds like to know...
Oh, hey. Don't get me wrong, this is not a knock on you and your effort whatsoever. I think you've done a fine job leading the charge. It's just that, I got into freewrite when @improv first introduced it here. Heck, I even wrote a whole FreeWrite story series which I feel was unprecedented at the time. Alas, the tag never took off. But, I realized that it may have just been ahead of its time, seeing as you ushered in a renaissance for the #freewrite tag. Great to see the community participation behind it, but I do feel like @improv is the unsung godfather.
Well, lots of people do freewrites, so to speak - it is a common practice in English classes. To build momentum and a community takes a lot of time and effort, actually posting the prompt is the smallest part. I hope that improv does feel that he is getting credit since he is mentioned as the co-instigator all the time.
Anyway, maybe you want to write with us again now that it has taken off and join the 160+ freewriters. A great community who truly cares about each other has formed and I see great things for all of us in the future.
Love for you to write with us.
I think the world of what you've done to build the community!
thank you so much!! It means a lot to me!! And I totally love what we got started!!
I didn't know that. English isn't my first language, so freewrites weren't part of our curriculum. It must've been lost to give way to basic structures. Also, I totally get what it takes to build a community. As I said, I do admire what you have accomplished with it.
One of these days, I might take you up on your offer. Though I do feel like with 160+ already there, it's quite hard to get noticed haha I'm not a big community guy, you see, and I haven't had the best of luck operating in big groups. Thanks for the offer though.
Oh, it is not 160 writing every day. More like 30. and believe me, you will get noticed. It is a friendly community and we make sure that at least one person reads all the contribution. You know, writers like readers :)
And thank you so much!
I gotta find this Gina bot.
Well, you're very nice to think so highly of me. I love what the freewrite community has become, and it couldn't be that way without everyone's effort. And @mariannewest especially got the ball rolling and is leading the charge. You know they say the second person doing something is really the impetus? They have done studies, and people will join a group of two far more readily than a lone person even if the activities are the same.
Oh yeah for sure. It's always the successors who get the ball rolling.
that's all about a duck, l thinks you are can be a frofesional writer, what do you think about that
What's a frofesional writer?
I think you've got it!
Well, it IS all about a duck, after all. What do you think about that.
It's kind of you to have noticed. :P ha
...thanks?
