It's an effort.

I mean. Well.

To begin, to bring food to the table is a joy. To cook for others, to experiment with flavors, to make things that taste good and are good for you! So good.

To continue, to worry about money is... both a joy and not a joy. There's something exciting about the game of life that is investment... or... whatever.

We have one big financial goal, and that is to live in a house that we feel won't be taken from us (so, own, probably) and that is as convenient to stuff as our current place so that we don't have to own a car.

We are 1% of the way to our goal, I guess. That's very far away. And it's possible that we'll never be closer ;) No, but really.

But maybe there will be a m... no. Probably not, really. I mean there's a housing shortage in L.A. and plenty of rich people to buy up property before it becomes affordable to average people and turn it into rental spaces so that they can make more money.

You wanna hear my complaints? Of course you do. We got a 3 day pay or vacate notice. But we sent them our rent. We put it in the hands of the post office employee on June 27th. This is not the first time this has happened. And I trust the post office, so I begin to think it is either carelessness or intentional misplacement on the part of our property management company. We pay considerably less than market value for our place, yay rent control. We wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. We wonder if they want us to mess up. We're perfect tenants, but they want to maximize revenue, and so... they are mean.

Sorry to hear about property management peeps. You're probably right about them wanting more from someone else.
Housing is getting more and more expensive here too, but I know not as much as where you live. I know that you're an actor and probably like where you live, but you might be able to buy/own something somewhere cheaper? When I came here twenty years ago people weren't interested and now property values are rising.
Probably too much advice giving and you already know.
Hope all works out.

I don't mind advice, but yeah, we know ;) My mom sends me Real Estate clippings of homes in Wisconsin that are twice the size and one-fifth the price of what we'd find here in Los Angeles.

I have heard of people who pay as little as you do having similar issues.

1% there! Go you!

I think if you keep good track of where your rent money is going, you will be fine. If not, the hills aren't so bad … 8-/

Yeah... but with a baby, they aren't so good, either ;)

Did you get my email about the 24th?

Money talks every single time, no matter who gets hurt. I wouldn't doubt it if it was the property management company at fault.
