Beat beat beat beat the fire alarm was making the dog feel frantic he went around the room again and again and again and again oh no said the dog oh no something's gone wrong where are my people where are my people well the poor puppy dog didn't realize that the fire alarm just needed a new battery he was so upset he crawled into the bed and under the covers and he hit their shivering and shaking where are my people where are my people his people even though he didn't realize it we're right there and telling him baby puppy dog it's going to be fine.
He can't see us though or hear us. All he knows is fear. That feeling deep in the pit of yesterday's stolen doughnut that says nothing can ever be alright. He hasn't known want for 8 years. His home is safe and comfortable.
And yet. And yet.
This poor puppy cannot believe that every instance of uncontrolled environment is not the beginning of the end lest he forgo his fear. His fear keeps him safe, he believes, and in control.

I mean it only chirps rarely, and legally, we must have smoke detectors. ;)
We think he's nine. He's only not known want for eight of those years. We found him on the street.
Well I guess the dog will get over it than... or by now

I hope so. Or maybe he's pretending so he can get extra cuddles. I don't think he is pretending, but he does get extra treats and cuddles when he's scared.
I doubt he will do so but... you know extra attention and cuddles will make the fear worse or? Same with firework.
